Current Employment

Chautauqua Golf Club

I have been the golf course superintendent at Chautauqua Golf Club since April, 2002.  Chautauqua Golf Club is a 36 hole public facility owned by the prestigious Chautauqua Institution near beautiful Chautauqua Lake in Western New York.  Between our daily fee guests and our 260 members, we are host to just under 30,000 rounds annually.  Our two courses consist of the Lake Course, originally designed by Seymour Dunn in 1914 as a 9 hole course that was redesigned and expanded to 18 holes by Donald Ross in 1924, and the Hill Course, a Xen Hassenplug design completed in 1994.

I have been very blessed to be part of  the Chautauqua Golf Club and Chautauqua Institution team.  I work for and with great people.

NJCAA National Championship

Chautauqua Golf Club has been home for the NJCAA Division III National Championship for over 12 years.  The longevity of this event at our course is a testament to our tournament prep and and conditions.  Players and coaches alike rave about the condition of the course and the consistent roll of the greens.  We look forward to many more years as host.

Projects

Nearly all projects at Chautauqua Golf Club are completed in-house.  The advantage is cost savings, the disadvantage is time to completion and it detracts from our routine maintenance schedule.  Projects over the last 10 years have included:

  • Construction of 25 acre Learning Center

  • Nearly 9,000 feet of drainage

  • 23 bunkers renovated

  • 9 tees leveled

  • 8 new tees constructed

  • 2400 yards of stone paths

  • 2450 yards of paved paths

  • Irrigation pump upgrade

  • Tree removal for turf health

  • Re-grassing of bare soil left from tree removal

  • Implementation of "low maintenance" or "native" areas

  • Perennial garden construction

  • Working toward Audubon certification

  • Construction of an English Lawn Bowling green
